Em_exec has caused an error in KERNEL32.DLL

  • When starting up Windows, every now and then I get the error message ‘Em_exec has caused an error in KERNEL32.DLL. Em_exec will now close’. What is this about and can it be fixed? I run Windows ME.

Em_exec is the Event Marco Executive utility which is used by Logitech device drivers/software such as Logitech MouseWare. To prevent this message from appearing, you will need to disable this utility from starting when Windows boots. For this, you have two options. Firstly, you can go to the ‘Start’ menu > ‘Run’ and type in the open box ‘msconfig’ (without the quotes) and click OK. In the window that appears, click the ‘Startup’ tab and clear the check box next to EM_EXEC. Click the ‘Apply’ button and the OK button. Then restart your computer. This will now stop EM_EXEC from starting on bootup. The second option is to simply uninstall Logitech MouseWare (if you have a Logitech mouse). However, by doing this you may not be able to use some features of your mouse. If you decide to uninstall the MouseWare, click the ‘Start’ button > ‘Settings’ > ‘Control Panel’ and open the ‘Add/Remove Programs’ control panel. Find ‘Logitech MouseWare’ in the installed programs list, select it and click ‘Add/Remove’ to remove Logitech MouseWare.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
