Transfer Outlook 97 email to new system
-
I have recently upgraded hard drives, and now would like to transfer all my emails from the old system to my new hard drive. I was running Windows 95, where the mail program was Internet Mail. My new hard drive runs Windows 98 with Microsoft Outlook 97 for email. How can I export the old emails (about 150) from Internet Mail to Outlook 97? Is there a common file type that they both use?
If you currently have both Outlook 97 and Internet Mail installed on the same computer then the process is quite simple. Open Outlook 97, go to the ‘File’ menu > ‘Import and Export’. In the window that appears, select ‘Import Internet Mail and Addresses’ and press the ‘Next’ button. Alternatively, if the procedure doesn’t work, you could open Microsoft Internet Mail and go to the ‘File’ menu > ‘Export’ > ‘Messages’. On the other hand, if Internet Mail is on a different computer to Outlook 97 and you wish to transfer the emails across, I am not sure if you could do this by copying the message storage files as I have never attempted this procedure. Also I have found it difficult to find any information on the internet on how such a procedure might be undertaken. If this is your situation, then maybe your best bet is to connect the machine using Internet Mail to the internet and forward all the emails to yourself (i.e., send the emails to yourself), disconnect, and then log back onto the internet on your machine running Outlook 97 and then download the emails.
