Error. File Name: VCACHE(01) + 00001149 Error: OE: 0028: C004E7E5
By skid on May 27, 2002 in Windows 95/98/Me | No Comments
When attempting to install any large program onto my Windows ME operating system, a basic blue Windows screen comes up with the message: Error, File Name:VCACHE(01) + 00001149 Error: OE: 0028: C004E7E5. I have successfully installed a few items of important software, and it seems that only programs that take over 4 minutes of installation time will come up with the error message. The same error message also appears on random occasions when I am running a program. Even having reformatted multiple times with Windows ME, the problem still occurs. I would appreciate any help or information about my problem. (more…)

Clicking on OK a few times makes these messages disappear but only until the next time I open Windows. I would like to be rid of these for good . Can you please help? (more…)

Computer freezes during games
By skid on May 27, 2002 in Games | No Comments
Recently I upgraded my video card to a GeForce 2 MX200 so that I may play games which I have not been able to previously play. However, while playing games, such as AvP2 and Unreal Tournament, after a random period of time the computer freezes and the only way to make it work is to reboot. This also happens while attempting other CPU intensive tasks on the computer. I have tried downloading the latest drivers for my graphics card and for my motherboard but nothing seems to work. Could you please help me resolve this problem? (more…)

Outlook Express displaying attachments in message
By skid on May 20, 2002 in Internet and email | No Comments
I have Outlook Express 5.0 running on Windows 98 (but do not know whether 5.0 was upgraded from 4.0). For some reason, Outlook has started to display attachments in the message box. I have found a reply that you made to this query in November last, and attempted to follow the registry editing instructions for a solution. I went to Regedit and navigated to HKEY_CURRENT_USERIdentities{……}SoftwareMicrosoftOutlook Express5.0 where there are a number of sub-folders. Choosing mail I entered a new DWORD value ‘Automatic Inline Images’ but the problem persists. The value shows as a string of zeros, but I am unable to alter this to a single ‘0′ even by double clicking on the string to edit it. Is this OK? I am also unable to determine whether my mail format is HTML or Plain text. Where do I alter or check on that, please? (more…)

Old game not loading
By skid on May 20, 2002 in Games | No Comments
I have an old (and much-loved) game called ‘Zeppelin - Giants of the Sky’ produced in 1994 by Microprose (Ikarion Software). The game comes on three floppy disks. It ran well on my old Compaq LTE 386 laptop with Windows 3.1 but it will not load (or run!) on my Pentium II 233 MHz laptop. I’ve been told that this is a common problem with old games. Is there anyway to get around the problem? (more…)
