AVG Free Edition

  • In previous columns you mentioned the free antivirus product InoculateIT Personal edition. On your recommendation, I downloaded and installed this software. With the exception of one glitch it has worked fine. You may be aware that support for the free personal edition will cease next month with the only option being to subscribe to the new software. For pensioners like myself, this is not a desirable option. I have come across another free antivirus software product called AVG 6.0 - Free Edition available from www.grisoft.com and am wondering if you have any experience or knowledge of this product. Your advice would be appreciated.

Thank you for bringing AVG to the attention of myself and other readers. Although I have had no experience personally with AVG antivirus and cannot vouch for the product, I recommend that you search for any reviews on AVG to determine whether this is the product for you. Two reviews I found when doing a search on Google.com are www.5star-shareware.com/Utilities/AntivirusScanners/avg.html (NB: This is for the pay version, not the free version) and www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_description/0,fid,15202,00.asp.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
