Speaker icon disappeared

  • The speaker icon that sits in the system tray next to the time display has disappeared from my Windows 98 system. How can I recover this icon? I use it to access the volume control panel.

    You can bring the speaker icon back into the system tray by going to the ‘Start’ menu > ‘Settings’ > ‘Control Panel’ and open the ‘Multimedia’ control panel. Click the ‘Audio’ tab and ensure that ‘Show volume control on the taskbar’ is ticked.
