Some internet site which I visit regularly (but I don’t know which one) changes my Internet Explorer default home page. It doesn’t matter how many times I reset it, within a day or two the default home page has been changed. I regularly delete all cookies, and all the contents of the Windows Temporary Internet Files folders (both manually through Windows Explorer and through Internet Explorer). Is there any way I can prevent it from happening? (more…)

Lately, when starting my computer a message appears while on the black DOS screen that says ‘or directory not empty’. Start up continues and Windows performs normally, although there are some instabilities when using the web (using Internet Explorer 4). Can you tell me whether any of these are serious, what I should be observing as a consequence, and the reason for the odd message? (more…)

Since upgrading the computer and installing a SVGA video card, the modem won’t work. Wiping the hard drive and installing the modem again has not fixed the problem. Can you help? (more…)

When running a virus scan I noticed that the scan spends a lot of time scanning the temporary internet files/contents (seemingly every internet action we have ever done. Hundreds, if not thousands of files). Can the contents file be emptied/deleted or are there important operating files enclosed? (more…)

Several weeks ago I installed GeoShellX - a program that debugs and changes the desktop totally, for a new, different theme. I downloaded the patch/program from www.geoshellx.com and followed the installation instructions and as the instruction told me to restart, I did so. Upon returning to my operating system the following message pops up once I log into Windows: ‘Error loading C:Documents and SettingsJTMy DocumentsprojectsSound ForgeR4-Output
eleaseshellgeOshell.exe. You must reinstall Windows’. I currently have a Pentium III 800 MHz running Windows Me. Is there any way to fix this problem besides reinstalling? I also have Windows 2000 on the same computer, so I can access my hard drive without hassle. (more…)
