Copying vinyl to CD
-
A few months ago I read Graham Cooke’s article about digitally burning vinyl records onto CDs. I wonder if you could elaborate on the process? Not being a computer whizz I would appreciate the process explained in the simplest fashion.
Unfortunately I must have missed reading Graham’s article about burning vinyls onto CDs. However, I can talk about different ways of completing such a procedure. Probably the simplest way to copy your vinyl records onto CDs is to have a CD burner, a sound card, an LP player and some software. The process will involve the LP being played into the computer, through the sound card and the software will process the sound and remove any hisses or other imperfections (within the scope of the software of course) from the sound, and then will record it onto the CD. One such software package which can complete this procedure is Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum (www.roxio.com/en/products/ecdc/index.jhtml). If you do not yet have a CD-R drive, then this software may come with the drive. Otherwise, you may have to purchase the software separately (if you don’t already have software which can complete the recording process). Easy CD Creator has a feature called Spin Doctor which will process and record an LP onto CD. The turntable (which you connect to the line-in socket on your computer) should preferably have its own pre-amplifier (many are sold this way) and should also come with the relevant cables.
