Testing RAM

  • Just wondering if you have any idea on how to identify bad sectors in RAM.? My system has been crashing in intensive games and I suspect that when it tries to access the higher end of my RAM it hits a bad sector. Any ideas?

It is possible to test RAM with a piece of software called TuffTEST. I only discovered this software when researching your question, so unfortunately I cannot vouch for its performance. However, from the description given on their website, it seems like quite good diagnostic software. Of particular interest to you is the memory tests, which TuffTEST claim on their website, tests all the memory. Normally, memory which is occupied (e.g., by a program) cannot be tested. TuffTEST has solved this problem by being relocated in memory after each ‘pass’. You can find the software at www.tufftest.com/. The basic TuffTEST package costs US$9.95 and TuffTEST Pro costs $29.95. However, before purchasing, I suggest that you read the full description of the software to make sure that it will be useful to you.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
