Windows not recognising ejected CD

  • I run Windows 98 and whenever I play a music CD on my computer it runs fine. However, when I try to eject the CD using the button on the front of the CD drive the computer still thinks there is a music CD in the drive. It’ll even show me how many tracks there were on the CD. This can be temporarily fixed by either going into ‘My Computer’ and right clicking the D: drive and clicking ‘Eject’ or by pressing the eject button in CD Player. Is there a way I can permanently fix this problem?

I have seen this problem occur intermittently on other computers as well. It seems that the CD Player software does not recognise that the drive has been opened to remove the CD. It is doubtful that a standard fix can be found for this problem as it is probably caused by a quirk in the computer. You may be able to work around the problem by using a different CD Player. You mentioned that you are running Windows 98. I am aware that this does come with an application called CD Player. Maybe you could try downloading the latest Windows Media Player from the internet (or a magazine cover CD) as this has support for the playing of CDs.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
