Home page changed

  • Whenever connected to the internet, I am redirected to a website which says ‘In order to automatically go to your chosen destination, you should enable ActiveX use in your browser’. I checked my security options under ‘Tools’ menu > ‘Internet Options’ > ‘Security’ tab and set the Active X settings in all sites to ‘Enable’ but this doesn’t seem to solve the problem. How can I get my desired home page to open first? I am running Windows 98 with Internet Explorer 5.

Many people experience similar problems to the one you describe, where you are redirected to a website rather than your desired homepage. A few weeks ago when answering a similar question, I referenced the program StartPage Guard (available from pjwalczak.com/spguard/index.php). This program was brought to my attention by a reader in relation to an earlier question on the same topic. This program will protect your Internet Explorer homepage and should stop you being redirected to the other site. I also strongly suggest that you reset your ActiveX options back to their original settings, to avoid potentially harmful ActiveX applications being executed on your computer.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
