Msgsrv32. Fault at CTPNPSCN.DRV
By skid on October 27, 2002 in Imaging devices | No Comments
My PII 400 MHz runs Windows 98 with 128MB RAM, 60GB hard drive with a Creative Labs AWE64 Sound Card and 64 MB GeForce2 400 MX Video card. Recently I upgraded the video card and the size of my hard drive. Now, when closing down my PC, the following message appears: ‘Msgsrv32. An error has occurred in your program. To keep working anyway click Ignore and save your work in a new file. To quit this program click Close. You will lose information you entered since your last save’. I press Close. Then the following message appears: ‘Msgsrv32. This program caused a general fault protection fault at CTPNPSCN.DRV at ….’. I have visited the Creative Labs site to try to find an updated driver but couldn’t find any. Is there anything else I can do to resolve this problem? (more…)

Backup emails in Netscape Mail
By skid on October 27, 2002 in Internet and email | No Comments
Periodically I like to save selected e-mails as a backup. Having recently upgraded to Netscape 6.2 and Windows 98 I can now only backup at the rate of one message at a time. Formerly, using Netscape 4.5 and Windows 95 I was able to block select a number of emails and save those as a single text or Word document. Is there some way of doing this with my new set up? I have the feeling that I am overlooking some simple step but have been (obviously) unable to identify it. In both cases I am using Netscape Mail. (more…)

Cannot find the file or one of its components
By skid on October 21, 2002 in Office | No Comments
Whenever I start up the PC and try to open a Word document or a Word email attachment, the following message appears: ‘Cannot find the file C:[folder name][file name] or one of its components. Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are available’. If I click the close button on the above message box I can then double click the file which now opens normally. However, if I select a Word document in another folder or a Word email attachment the message box returns and I must go through the process again. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Word several times without any joy. I am running Windows 98 SE with Word 2000. Can you offer any advice on fixing these problems? (more…)

The MSSBLST.VXD driver not present or failed to load
By skid on October 21, 2002 in Windows 95/98/Me | No Comments
Recently, I bought a second-hand HP Vectra VL running Windows 95. When the computer is turned on the following message appears: ‘The MSSBLST.VXD driver not present or failed to load. Check your hardware configuration and then restart your system’. I click OK and the message appears twice more. Then I click on OK again and the computer eventually finishes booting. Is this error message serious and can I fix it? There are also other irritants, but I am hoping that if I can fix the MSSBLST.VXD problem then the others might resolve themselves! Any advice would be greatly appreciated. (more…)

New browser window with advertising
By skid on October 14, 2002 in Security and malware | No Comments
I bought a Sony Vaio second hand and every time I use Internet Explorer a new browser window appears with advertising. I have tried cleaning out the Temporary Internet Files and removing downloaded program files but nothing seems to fix the problem. Also I tried to uninstall/reinstall Internet Explorer using the ‘Add/Remove Programs’ control panel. As well, I have been through my program list to uninstall programs which look suspicious. How can I be rid of these annoying windows? It happens every time I connect to the internet, regardless of what site I am looking at online. (more…)
