Graphics choppy
-
My computer is a P4 1.7GHz with 256 MB RAM, 80GB hard drive, and a Geforce2 MX 400 video card. Since installing Battlefield 1942 the graphics have been ridiculously choppy, sometimes taking 30 seconds to catch up. The system I am running should be able to handle everything without a problem but it only seems to be getting worse. I have acquired the newest drivers for my video card and latest version of the game and have turned every video and sound option down as low as it will go. The machine is only a few months old and is not overflowing with interfering programs or anything. I turn off my antivirus scanning and any other processes on my toolbar but nothing seems to work. Is there anything I can do to resolve this problem?
You mentioned that you have already closed most of the programs on the Windows taskbar. However, let’s also try and close applications which are not visible. As your computer is fairly recent, I assume that it is running Windows XP. Press CTRL-ALT-DEL. In the Task Manager that appears, click on the ‘User Name’ heading which will sort the list of processes by username. Try to end as many processes (except EXPLORER.EXE and TASKMGR.EXE) running under your user name. Do not attempt to close any processes running under LOCAL SERVICE, SYSTEM, or NETWORK SERVICE. After you have ended the processes, see if this makes any difference. Although you may have already done this, go to techsupport.ea.com, click the technical support link, and select ‘Battlefield 1942′. There are quite a few articles dealing with choppy graphics. I hope this helps!
