Printed pictures distorted
-
I have a Satellite 1400 notebook running Windows XP Home Edition and a Canon S300 printer (which produces good results). However, I had a CD-ROM made of a still camera film and I cannot print these pictures without distortion. The picture comes out as either short and fat or long and thin, even after following all instructions relating to paper size, quality etc’¦ The photo wizard constantly alters the image although I have seen a normal print preview. Other computers running Windows 2000 and Microsoft Publisher have produced normal photo prints with this CD-ROM. Can you help?
If you can print normally in other applications, which doesn’t necessarily have to be graphics applications, then it seems the printer and drivers are perfectly fine. Since you mentioned that your printer is producing good results, I assume that the problem is specific to printing photos. One consideration is whether the fault only occurs when printing the photos in colour. Try inserting one of the photos into a Word document and add text. Print the document in colour and see if the problem occurs when printing the photo in the Word document. If so, then the problem may be related to the colour cartridge itself. Reasons for this occurring include using non-genuine ink cartridges or if the printer cartridge is not seated correctly (so the contacts are not properly connected). However, if the photo prints ok, the problem may be related to the Photo Printing Wizard. But I have not found a similar case to yours so I can’t be completely sure. It may be possible to narrow down the problem by trying to print the photos through Paint (which can be found on the ‘Accessories’ menu). If the problem still persists in Paint, then I will have to reassess whether the problem is related to the Photo Printing Wizard or may be driver/hardware related. In that case please contact me again and, if possible, please mail me a hard copy of one of the distorted printouts of a photo.
