Intermittently, my screen saver stops functioning and the desktop appears for 2 - 5 seconds. Then the screen saver comes back on again. Restarting the computer fixes the problem for a few hours but then it resurfaces. Also, occasionally when typing in Word, the mouse pointer disappears. To make the pointer reappear I must right-click the mouse. Can you help? The computer is a Compaq Presario running Windows Me. (more…)

I read Arabic news papers on the internet. Ever since replacing my computer’s hard drive, when attempting to print the texts of articles from three particular papers no text is printed. Instead, only photos which appear within the text of the article and any borders or titles are printed. However, when accessing a fourth newspaper there is no difficulty in printing articles. Any advice will be highly appreciated. The computer is running Windows 98 with a Canon LBP430W printer. (more…)

My Pentium III computer is set up to dual boot either Windows Professional 2000 or Windows 98. Windows 98 was the original operating system. The dual boot mechanism was set up automatically when I installed Windows Professional 2000. Now I would like to uninstall Windows Professional 2000, but am not sure how. Can you advise? If it is too complex to uninstall Windows Professional 2000 could you advise me how to change the boot menu default selection to Windows 98 rather than Windows 2000 Professional? (more…)

Some time back you gave some information on setting up a server but I cannot find that article. You also mentioned a web site address where further information could be found. Do you still have the address? My main computer runs Windows XP Home Edition but I would probably use Windows 98 SE or Windows ME for the server. Would this work? (more…)

When Windows is loading the following message appears: ‘The Windows registry or SYSTEM.INI files refer to this device file. Try uninstalling the associated application using the uninstall or setup program. If you deleted this file, try reinstalling the application to replace the missing file’.
