To avoid the computer being infected with a virus I want to delete any email I do not choose to read. However, whenever I select an email it is automatically displayed. How do I stop the messages automatically displaying? The computer is running Outlook Express 6 and Windows 98.
To stop messages automatically displaying, you will need to disable the preview pane in Outlook Express. Go to the ‘View’ menu > ‘Layout’¦’. In the window that appears, disable ‘Show preview pane’. Click OK. Now to read messages you will need to double-click the message. If you are concerned about viruses, you should really purchase a virus scanner which is capable of scanning incoming email messages for viruses. Don’t forget to regularly update your virus definition files!
