Change speed of Windows XP slide show

  • How can I change the speed of the Windows XP slide show? I suspect that the change will have to occur in the Registry. If this is the case, how would it be done?

You are correct that there is a registry hack to change the speed at which the Windows XP slide show runs. Go to the ‘Start’ menu > ‘Run’ and type ‘regedit’ (without the quotes) and click OK. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerShellImageView. At this location, check to see if there is a DWORD value named ‘Timeout’. If not, right-click in a blank space in the right-hand pane and select ‘New’ > ‘DWORD Value’. Name this value ‘Timeout’ (without the quotes). Now, if the ‘Timeout’ value already existed or you just created the value, follow the next procedure. Double-click on ‘Timeout’, click ‘Decimal’ (as the base) and then under ‘Value data’, enter the amount of time in milliseconds you would like each slide to be displayed before changing. For example, 1000 = 1 second, 12000 = 12 seconds, etc’¦ Click OK. Close the Registry Editor. Enjoy the slideshow!

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
