Outlook Express blocks attachments, and spell checker not working

  • Some of the e-mails that are sent to me have attachments which my system blocks out. How can I read these attachments? I also have a problem when trying to use spell check before sending e-mails. The computer is running Windows XP Home Edition. Can you help?

To overcome the email attachments being blocked in Outlook Express, go to the ‘Tools’ menu > ‘Options’ and click the ‘Security’ tab. Untick ‘Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus’. Click OK. Restart Outlook Express. You should now be able to open the attachments. Regarding your spell checker problem, you can only use the Outlook Express spell checker if you have another Microsoft program which has a spell checker inbuilt (e.g., Works, Word, etc’¦) and which supports Outlook Express (e.g., some versions of Works do not support spell checking in Outlook Express). So, if the spell checker is greyed out, this is your problem. If this is not the problem, can you please contact me again with more information on the exact nature of the problem.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
