Playing AVI videos

I have a fairly old PC with a 200 MHz processor with 256MB RAM running Windows 2000. I would like to be able to view AVI video clips. All the freeware/shareware players seem to require specifications above my PC. Are there any players that would work? I have Windows Media Player 7.01.00.3055. Is there a codec to allow this to play AVI format, or would I have to upgrade to Windows Media Player 9?
Windows Media Player 7 does support the playing of AVI files. However, you may not be able to play the specific file which you are attempting to play as the relevant codec may not be installed. The video and audio may be compressed to AVI format using a specific codec. You can find a list of some common codecs at support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;q316992. If you are still having problems you can try downloading a third-party player. I found some players which don’t exceed your system requirements at Download.com by going to ‘Audio & Video’ > ‘Media Players’. Just be careful as some of these players may include spyware, which may display advertising, record your surfing habits, etc’¦
