The registry information for Easy CD Creators installable file systems is missing
-
Since upgrading from Windows Me to Windows XP I have been unable to run Easy CD Creator. My HP computer came with a set of ‘recovery’ disks to enable the recovery of software. I have used the CDs and, according to the recovery application, Easy CD Creator has been recovered. However, when I try to start the Easy CD the following messages appear: ‘The registry information for Easy CD Creators installable file systems is missing. Please reinstall Easy CD Creator’ and ‘Easy CD Creator Engine initialization has failed: (could not create the engine)’. I have tried several times to reinstall Easy CD Creator but have had no luck. Can you help?
The most likely reason for this problem is that the version of Easy CD Creator on your recovery CDs is not compatible with Windows XP (but was compatible with Windows Me). If you are running Easy CD Creator 5, you will need to download an update patch to make the software work under XP. You can download the patch from www.roxio.com/en/support/ecdc/software_updatesv5.jhtml.
If you are running Easy CD Creator 4, this version is not compatible with XP and there are no patches which can make it compatible. In this case, you will need to buy the latest version of Easy CD Creator (which is currently version 6). For more information, see www.roxio.com/en/support/ecdc/software_updatesv4.jhtml. However, if you don’t wish to purchase a new version of Easy CD Creator, and you don’t have a need for any fancy burning software features, you can use the inbuilt Windows XP CD burning feature.
