Keep 1 GB free hard drive space
-
How can I keep 750 MB - 1 GB of free hard drive space? Currently, I have used space of 2.85 GB and free space of 144 MB which causes the message ‘Insufficient Disk Space’ to appear quite often. The computer is running Windows Me (upgraded from Windows 95) with Microsoft Office 97 and Quicken. Can you help?
From your description, your total hard drive capacity seems to be 3 GB - this is not much at all. Since you are running Windows Me, Office 97 and Quicken, you don’t have a great deal of room on your hard drive for much else. My suggestion is to upgrade your hard drive. Hard drive prices are quite cheap at the moment. You can buy a 120 GB hard drive for around $300. If that sounds like too much space, you can get a more modest 40 GB drive for about $150. If you have enough room, you could possibly keep your existing hard drive and add an additional drive. However, if all the IDE plugs in your computer are already connected to other devices (e.g., CD-ROM, ZIP drives, etc’¦) then you may need to replace the existing drive. Before doing this you should obviously, back up any data you wish to keep. If you have a computer technician do the hardware upgrade, then they should be able to transfer the data across.
