Windows help in Dutch

  • Recently a relative visited us from The Netherlands. He used our computer a few times, emailing friends and downloading pictures from his digital camera. Last week I used the Windows Help and found that the headings were all in Dutch! The body of the text is still in English, but I have found other settings on the computer in Dutch as well. How do I remove the Dutch and reinstate English?

It is likely that when your visitor installed his digital camera software on your computer this changed some of the language settings on your computer ( I am guessing that the software has Dutch text). Another possible cause is the emails if these were sent in Dutch. To fix this problem, you will need to venture into the Windows regional settings control panel. Go to the ‘Start’ menu > ‘Settings’ > ‘Control Panel’. Open the ‘Regional Settings’ or ‘Regional and Language Options’ control panel (the name will depend on your version of Windows). A window will appear allowing you to customise the language settings on your computer. There will be multiple tabs each with a different type of setting. I suggest that you go through all these tabs and check and change if necessary, the settings to conform with English. You may also notice there are extra buttons on some of the tabs, which will bring up yet more settings. I suggest that you also click these to make sure that all the settings are ok.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
