Disabled Norton Antivirus before printing
-
No matter which application I am using, unless Norton Antivirus 2001 is disabled before attempting to print, the system crashes with the blue screen of death showing an error code NAVAP(02) +000198DB, Error: OE:OD28:C02F4CBF. Moreover, CTRL-ALT-DEL does not reboot the computer and on pressing enter to ‘Return to Windows’ a further 6 errors occur before the screen goes black. Then, I have no option other than to go for the off switch. A Canon 5000F scanner is plugged into one of the USB ports; this is a new addition and disconnecting it makes no difference. I have also unchecked the Word virus scanner plug-in with Norton but this did not improve matters either. The printer is an HP Deskjet 720C and the computer is a 900 MHz Celeron running Windows ME (with all updates) and Zone Alarm. Any thoughts?
The problem seems to be related to Norton Antivirus Auto-Protect (NAVAP). This is the application which filters and scans files for viruses when they are opened. Other people seem to have a similar problem with Norton Antivirus. Firstly, try the obvious and attempt to reinstall Norton Antivirus to see if this makes any difference. If not, attempt to reinstall your printer drivers. Unfortunately, I cannot think of any method to fix this problem, other than the workaround you have devised. You can always attempt to reinstall Windows. Another possibility is when your virus subscription with Symantec expires, buy a copy of the latest version of Norton Antivirus (version 2004) to see if the newer version will fix the problem. However, I cannot guarantee that the newer version will fix the problem.
