Microsoft Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close
-
After installing an Internet Explorer 6 update (IE6SP1 Cumulative Update Q822925) from a magazine cover CD, the following message appears when attempting to access my bank or register for any online services: ‘Microsoft Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close’¦’. The only option at this point is to restart the computer. Reinstalling the update does not solve the problem, nor does repairing Internet Explorer. The error report advises that the problem occurs in module caukr.dll. Can you help?
This is a tricky question, which I have been researching for a while without much luck. My original thoughts were that you may not have Internet Explorer SP1 installed, as you installed the SP1 version of the patch. However, the Internet Explorer version in the error report you sent me confirms you are running IE6 SP1. Yet searching for caukr.dll does not bring up any matches, which is quite odd given that it is a DLL file. You could always try uninstalling the patch, but then your system would not be protected against any threats the patch fixes. You will have to decide whether the benefit is worth the risk. Apart from reinstalling Windows I cannot think of any other solutions. If any other readers have suggestions please write in.
