    Tip of the Week

There is a new revolution in web browsing called tabbed browsing. Whenever you want to open a new web page in a separate window, instead of opening a completely new window, a new ‘tab’ is opened in the existing browser window. A new browser which supports tabbed browsing is Firefox (www.mozilla.org/products/firefox). This browser is only up to version 0.9 so there still may be bugs. However, I encourage you to have a look. Other features of Firefox include built-in pop-up blocking and the Google search bar. (more…)

Over the past few months, each time I run Norton Antivirus the number of files being scanned has steadily increased, sometimes by over a thousand a day. I started recoring the number of files in mid-March and it has grown from 134,000 to in excess of 165,000 to date. The largest single daily increase was 1,708. Windows Explorer shows that the contents of the C: drive has risen from 7.7 GB to 8.2 GB over this period. I run Ashampoo, Ad-Aware and Spybot daily, Disk Defragmenter weekly, and download Windows XP updates as they are notified. To get some peace and quiet I have set up email blocking for those addresses from which I receive infected messages, but I’m sure this is not the ideal way for dealing with the situation. The computer is running Windows XP Home Edition with Norton Antivirus 2003, which is set to automatically download and install updates. I have run a complete scan which shows the system to be clean. Windows Messenger 4.7 came preinstalled on my Windows XP Home Edition Machine. I installed MSN Messenger 6.2, but the Windows Messenger 4.7 didn’t go away so now there are two versions of Messenger installed, and the wrong version automatically connects when I go online. How do I get rid of Windows Messenger 4.7? (more…)

How can I sort my Internet Explorer favourites by name? I followed your instructions given a few weeks ago about using the ‘Sort by Name’ function but this is not present. The only options I have are: Open, Create Folder, Print, Offline, Send, Cut, Copy, Delete, Rename, and Properties only. (more…)
