I notice that when you are responding to readers regarding spyware/adware issues you recommend the downloading of both Spybot - Search & Destroy and Ad-aware 6. I was under impression that these utilities performed basically the same function. Could you please explain why both are required?

This is an excellent question and I am glad you have asked. For cleaning up spyware/adware generally, one program isn’t the complete solution. You will find that Spybot will probably detect spyware/adware which Ad-Aware doesn’t detect, and vice-versa. It would be very difficult for one program to have the ability to detect and fix all spyware/adware problems. While the makers of the software strive to accomplish this, it is a very difficult task. Different programs also use different scanning engines and techniques, which also varies the detection capabilities. I suggest that you download both these programs and scan your computer for a comparison of the different techniques and detection abilities of these two programs.
