Disable Windows XP appearance features

  • Windows XP has quite a few neat appearance features, such as the shadow underneath the cursor and fading/sliding menus. Unfortunately, on older computers this can slow down performance. To disable these appearance features, go to the ‘Start’ menu > ‘Control Panel’. Open the ‘System’ control panel and click the ‘Advanced’ tab. Under the ‘Performance’ heading, click ‘Settings’. On the Visual Effects tab, you will see a list of the different appearance items which you can enable and disable. Once you are done, click OK, then OK again to save the settings.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
