Failed action: Obtaining drive capacity.

  • When running a diagnostic check on my Packard Bell computer running Windows 98 SE the following results appeared:
‘¢ CD-ROM/DVD test : Linear Scan - failed. SCSI Error 3A01H. Failed action: Obtaining drive capacity.
‘¢ CD-ROM/DVD test : Funnel Scan - failed. SCSI Error 3A01H. Failed action: Obtaining drive capacity.
What do these errors mean? The CD Drive is functioning properly.

Unfortunately I have never seen these errors before, nor have I been able to find any information on these errors. My thoughts are that the errors may be caused because you didn’t have a CD/DVD in the drive at the time of the diagnostic. This is why the error action is ‘Obtaining drive capacity’ - because there is no disk in the drive from which to gauge the capacity. However, this is just my opinion. If any other readers have encountered these errors before please write in!

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
