ZoneAlarm blocking internet authentication

  • After installing ZoneAlarm I immediately encountered problems when connecting to the internet. The connection dialogue stops at the ‘Verifying Username and Password’ prompt, and does not connect. Disabling ZoneAlarm fixes the problem. How can I connect to the internet while having the protection of ZoneAlarm? The computer is running Windows 98.

After researching this question for a long time, I am still stumped as to the exact cause of this problem. Since the problem only occurs when you install ZoneAlarm, it’s unlikely that there is an issue with the Windows Dial-up Networking services. Instead, it seems as if ZoneAlarm is blocking Dial-up Networking from transmitting any data over your connection, in this case your internet username and password, even before the internet connection has been established. So, I unfortunately don’t have any advice on solving this problem. If any other readers have encountered this problem and have a solution, please write in and I will pass the information onto Arthur.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
