Graphics selection tool
-
I have a photo of a bottle, with a red background. I am trying to find a graphics program that will let me select and delete the red the background, leaving only the bottle on a white background. I am currently using Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0 and I cannot find such a feature. The computer is running Windows XP Home Edition.
The tool which is most useful for your purpose is a specific selection tool which can select similar/contiguous areas of an image. This tool generally has an icon which looks like a magic wand and the tool is sometimes actually called the Magic Wand. Depending on the version of Photoshop Elements you are running, there should be a magic wand tool. In the tools pallet, look at the top section of the window (where all the selection tools are, like the rectangle selection, lasso, etc.) to find an icon that looks like a magic wand. Click this, then select the background on the image. Be aware, that because the background on the image is not a very solid colour (because the photograph has caused some shadowing of the background, thus causing the red background to become varying shades of red, the selection will not be very good. You will get best results if you retake the photograph on another background and try to minimise shadowing. Make sure the background you choose contrasts with the item you wish to extract from the image, otherwise the selection tool may start selecting areas of the bottle.
