Cannot access scanner

I have a scanner connected to my PC and in the past it has worked quite efficiently. However, recently the PC has begun to tell me that it is unable to access the scanner because another copy of the scanning program is open and to close one copy and try again.
This sounds like your scanner software may be corrupted. It is very unlikely that it is a hardware problem. I suggest that you reinstall the scanner software/drivers or you could also hook the scanner up to another computer to test whether this is a hardware problem or not (quite unlikely however).
