Cursor moves by itself

  • Recently I installed Windows XP Service Pack 2. Everything seems to be running alright except the cursor slowly moves in the x or y direction until it reaches the edge of the screen. If I slightly move the mouse, the behaviour ceases. This happens both in applications (such as Microsoft Word) and whenever I open a new web page. The computer is running Windows XP Home Edition.

Windows XP Service Pack 2 has been known to cause conflicts with some software applications which are installed on PCs, and from comments by other readers SP 2 could also affect device drivers installed on your computer. If you are using a mouse which came with specific drivers you were required to install, then I suggest you check the manufacturer’s website, then download and install the latest drivers for your mouse. Be aware that some mice which come with a driver disk, will work without installing the drivers. However, if you don’t install the drivers, you will generally find there are some (not so obvious) consequences. So make sure you install any drivers required for the device! Unfortunately I don’t have any more suggestions to offer for your question, so I would welcome any feedback from readers.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
