CD drive refuses to open with CD-RW disc

  • After inserting a rewritable CD (CD-RW) into my ASUS CD writer the drive refuses to open. The green drive light stays on and it sounds like the drive is continuously spinning the disc. However, the computer is able to read and write to the disk without any problem. The only way to open the drive is reboot the computer and press the eject button during reboot. The CD-RW was formatted using InCD. There is also a DVD drive installed which operates normally.

From what I have read about InCD, this software writes data to the CD-RW discs just before the disc is ejected. Therefore, to prevent possible data loss InCD will lock the eject button on the CD-RW drive. In order to eject the disc, you must use the software eject function which comes with the CD rewritable software (InCD) to eject the CD-RW disc from the drive. You should be able to do this by right-clicking on the InCD icon in the system tray and then click ‘Eject’ in the context-menu. If you would like more information about InCD, the user manual is available from www.nero.com/en/User_Guides_InCD_4.html.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
