VoIP not working

  • I recently subscribed to a Faktortel Internet Telephony service. Every time I attempt to connect a network timeout message appears. The diagnostic log says the following: ‘Discovered Single Mapped Port Symmetric NAT Firewall. SIP: 10.0.0.1:5060, RTP: 10.0.0.1:8000, NAT: 139.168.153.145. Discovering external SIP port on symmetric firewall. PROXY#0: 67.19.30.130:5060′. How can I successfully connect to the service? My ISP is Bigpond.

From the error message you are receiving, it looks like your broadband router is having problems routing the VoIP service packets. Since your ISP is Bigpond, I assume that you are using ADSL (since if you want decent quality of service it wouldn’t be a good idea to be using VoIP on a dial-up connection). When looking at the Faktortel website forums, I found an article on how to fix the SpeedTouch ADSL modems provided by Telstra to work with the Farktortel VoIP equipment. Since you are using Bigpond ADSL broadband, it’s likely you are using this model of broadband router. For instructions on fixing the router, have a look at voipinfo.faktortel.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=4.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
