Webcam not working with MSN Messenger

  • My Logitech Webcam works perfectly using the Logitech software, displaying the live video on the computer. However, when attempting to use the camera with MSN Messenger, it does not work. Reinstalling the Logitech software does not fix the problem. The computer is running Windows XP.

Some people have experienced this problem when using the Logitech QuickCam Express with Windows XP. If you are running this type of camera and the following message appears when attempting to use the camera, then this may be the same problem: ‘Camera Error: The camera you selected is not working properly, or may be in use by another program. Please click Back and try again, or to select a different camera’. You can download a fix for this problem at www.logitech.com/index.cfm/downloads/software/US/EN,CRID=1794,contentid=5385,OSID=1,softwareid=8635.

If you continue to have problems, or the before-mentioned procedure doesn’t apply in your case, you should first try downloading the latest drivers for your camera. You can obtain the latest drivers from the Logitech website (www.logitech.com) by clicking on the ‘Downloads’ link. Should you continue to have problems, please contact me again with more details on the problem (e.g. how are you trying to use the camera in MSN Messenger and what is displayed instead of the camera image).

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
