Could not find the file swflash.ocx

  • When reactivating the screen after being idle for a period of time, the first thing that is displayed is the following error message: ‘Could not find the file swflash.ocx’. I click OK and the error message. There is a file with that name on the C: drive, but I am unsure what to do with the file. This has only been happening since I installed Windows XP Service Pack 2 on the computer.

The swflash.ocx file is related to Macromedia Flash. Other people have also reported this problem after installing Service Pack 2. This problem can generally be solved by reinstalling Macromedia Flash Player. Firstly, uninstall the existing copy of Flash Player through the Add/Remove Programs control panel. Then, download a new copy from www.macromedia.com/downloads. The player should be reinstalled with all the files in their proper locations.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
