C:WindowsSystem32Autoexec.Nt

  • After installing Windows XP Service Pack 2 whenever I attempt to run DOS programs, such as Band in a Box, the following message appears: ‘16 Bit Windows Subsystem C:WindowsSystem32Autoexec.Nt. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Windows applications. Choose Close to terminate the application’. The computer is running Ad-Aware, Spybot Search & Destroy, and Norton Antivirus which are all regularly updated.

You will be glad to know this is a relatively common problem when running older applications on Windows XP and is an issue which has been recognised by Microsoft. To fix this problem, follow the instructions at the Microsoft Knowledge Base article: support.microsoft.com/kb/324767 .

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
