GLW_Start OpenGL - Could not load OpenGL subsystem
-
Since upgrading from Windows 98 to Windows XP, I am having problems starting ‘Star Wars Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast’. When starting the game, the following message appears on top of the console ‘GLW_Start OpenGL - Could not load OpenGL subsystem’. The computer stops loading the game, and I am unable to play.
This problem is related to the video drivers installed on your machine. It is likely that when installing Windows XP, the setup installed the video drivers included on the Windows XP CD which are suitable for your video card. However, the video drivers on the Windows XP CD do not support OpenGL. Many 3D games (such as Star Wars Jedi Night 2) use OpenGL hardware acceleration, which requires both video drivers and a video card which support OpenGL. Since you have been able to run the game in the past, using Windows 98, your video card should support OpenGL. However, the video drivers which were installed during the Windows XP setup do not support OpenGL. To fix this problem, you will need to download the drivers for your video card from the video card manufacturer’s website. To identify the manufacturer of your video, go to the ‘Start’ menu > ‘Control Panel’ and open the ‘Display’ control panel (you may need to first click ‘Appearances and Themes’ if the control panel is displayed in category view). In the Display Properties window, click the ‘Settings’ tab. Under the ‘Display’ heading, it will state your video card and monitor. You can usually find the manufacturer’s website by searching for their name using Google.com. Make sure you only download the drivers from the official manufacturer’s website, to ensure you are receiving a good copy of the drivers which does not have any viruses or other nasties.
