Entire word highlighting in Microsoft Word

  • Microsoft Word has a feature that when highlighting text using the mouse, Word will automatically select the entire word. While this can be useful in some circumstances, often I want to select only part of a word. To disable Word from automatically selecting entire words, in Word go to the ‘Tools’ menu > ‘Options’. In the window that appears, click the ‘Edit’ tab. Disable the option ‘When selecting, automatically select entire word’. Click OK.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
