Backweb Warning: Item Trigger tried to perform an action not authorised
-
When Windows starts the following message appears: ‘Backweb Warning: Item Trigger tried to perform an action not authorised by the channel’s security settings and has been stopped’. Clicking OK causes the message to disappear, and the computer operates normally. I have run scans using both Ad-Aware and AVG and both report clean results, yet the error message still appears on startup. The computer is running Windows Me.
Backweb is a content delivery system used to download updates (off the internet) for various software applications. Some people claim Backweb is a security risk, but it seems Backweb is just the delivery system. From researching on the internet, I have found there are some legitimate uses for Backweb. For example, Backweb comes bundled with some HP/Compaq computers to download updates from the internet. In either case, the message implies that Backweb is still loading on startup. So, disabling Backweb from loading on startup should stop the error message from appearing. Go to the ‘Start’ menu > ‘Run’ and type ‘msconfig’ (without the quotes). In the window that appears, click the ‘Startup’ tab. This will produce a list of all programs and processes which load on Windows startup. Look through the list of programs which load on startup and try to identify the Backweb process. Once found, untick the entry for the Backweb process then click OK to save changes and close. Restart the computer and the problem should no longer occur.
