Split Excel spreadsheet
By skid on January 30, 2006 in Tip of the Week | No Comments
When using large Excel spreadsheets, a useful tip is to split the screen to display multiple parts of the same spreadsheet on the one screen. For example: to always keep a heading row static in one view, while independently scrolling through the spreadsheet content in another view. You may have noticed at the top of the Excel vertical scrollbar there is a thin grey button (the split button) and when the mouse is hovered over the button, the mouse cursor changes to a vertical resize cursor. To split the screen into two separate views, click and drag the split button downwards. During this process, a line will also appear across the spreadsheet to show where the split will occur. You can also split the screen on the horizontal scroll bar and you may notice the split button at the right-hand end of the horizontal scroll bar. In either case, should you wish to remove the split screen, simply double-click on the split, or drag the split back to its original position (at the top, or end, of the scroll bar). (more…)
