Split Excel spreadsheet

  • When using large Excel spreadsheets, a useful tip is to split the screen to display multiple parts of the same spreadsheet on the one screen. For example: to always keep a heading row static in one view, while independently scrolling through the spreadsheet content in another view. You may have noticed at the top of the Excel vertical scrollbar there is a thin grey button (the split button) and when the mouse is hovered over the button, the mouse cursor changes to a vertical resize cursor. To split the screen into two separate views, click and drag the split button downwards. During this process, a line will also appear across the spreadsheet to show where the split will occur. You can also split the screen on the horizontal scroll bar and you may notice the split button at the right-hand end of the horizontal scroll bar. In either case, should you wish to remove the split screen, simply double-click on the split, or drag the split back to its original position (at the top, or end, of the scroll bar).

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
