D: Not accessible. Incorrect function
-
When attempting to copy files to CD through Windows XP the following message appears ‘D: Not accessible. Incorrect function’. However, I can read CDs correctly and also burn music to CDs (using CD burning software) with no problem. Why can’t I copy files to CD?
This problem is because the Windows XP in-built CD recording facility has been disabled for your CD drive. When this function is disabled, you can still read CDs but are unable to write to CD. When you insert a blank CD into the CD drive, and attempt to open the CD so you can copy files onto the CD, because the Windows CD burning function is not enabled all that Windows sees is a blank, unformatted CD. Windows doesn’t quite know what to make of the CD, so it returns the error message. However, even though the Windows CD burning is disabled you can still write to CDs using programs which have their own in-built CD writing capabilities (such as the CD music burning software you have been using). In any case, to fix the problem so you can write to CDs using Windows we need to enable Windows XP CD recording. Open My Computer, and then right-click on the CD writer drive and select ‘Properties’. In the window that appears, click the ‘Recording’ tab. Tick the option ‘Enable CD recording on this drive’ and click OK. You should now be able to copy files to the CD through Windows XP.
