Display files and folders in groups

  • When browsing files and folders (though My Computer or Windows Explorer) the file/folder items can be displayed multiple ways, one of which is arranging the icons in groups. This can be enabled by right-clicking within an empty space in the folder listing, and in the context-menu that appears, select ‘Arrange Icons By’ > ‘Show in Groups’. While this will still display the items arranged by the nominated criteria (e.g. Name, Size, Type, Modified) it will also categorise (group) the items under headings. For example, should you have the icons arranged by Name and enable show in groups, the items will be categorised under headings such as ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, etc. Likewise, if the icons are arranged by Type, they will be categorised under headings such as ‘Application’ (e.g. EXE files), ‘Application Extension’ (e.g. DLL files), ‘JPEG Image’, etc.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
