Extend Windows XP Sound Recorder beyond 60 seconds

  • Is it possible to extend the Windows XP Sound Recorder audio capture time beyond approx 60 seconds, hopefully to 60 minutes?

Unfortunately, there is no easy way to extend the maximum audio capture time in Sound Recorder. There are some methods which do work (one of which is detailed at support.microsoft.com/kb/q82215) but these methods are rather cumbersome and would be tricky to extend the recording time to 60 minutes (or in some cases, you may not even be able to get the recording time to 60 minutes). In any case, the Windows Sound Recorder is only intended as a very elementary sound recording program and, should you wish to record sound longer than 60 seconds, you will probably need a more advanced program anyway. The sound recording program which I recommend is Audacity (audacity.sourceforge.net). This free, open-source sound recording program has excellent features and is also quite simple to use (as opposed to complex sound recording applications which are very difficult to use). Audacity should be able to comfortably meet your needs.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
