Pasted picture appears upside down

  • A PDF file allows me to copy an image, by selecting the image and right-click then select ‘Copy image to clipboard’. After pasting the image into a Word document the image is initially very small, but this is not a real problem as the image can be enlarged. However, the image appears flipped upside-down, and I am unable to find any options to flip the image so it appears at the correct orientation. When selecting the image to show the Picture Toolbar, the ‘flip’ buttons are greyed out and cannot be accessed. How can I flip the image? The computer is running Windows XP Service Pack 2.

I have seen other situations where copied images paste strangely into Word. This behaviour can generally be attributed to the particular type of image being inserted. When I tried copying and pasting an image from a PDF file into Word, the image came through correctly and I was also able to access the flip buttons on the Picture Toolbar. However, this may have worked because of the type of image being copied and pasted. Issues when pasting images into Word can generally be resolved through using an alternative method to paste the images in Word. Copy the image from the PDF document, then switch to Word and go to the ‘Edit’ menu > ‘Paste Special’ (you may need to click the double-down arrows, at the end of the menu, to expand the menu to display this option). In the window that appears, several options should be available for pasting the image, such as: picture, bitmap, device independent bitmap and picture (enhanced metafile). One of the options will be selected by default, which denotes the default paste method which would be invoked when doing a standard paste (e.g. ‘Edit’ menu > ‘Paste’ or CTRL-V). Try using some of the other options, to see whether these are able to paste the image correctly into Word.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
