Oemji Bar
-
Two toolbars are installed in Internet Explorer: Oemji Bar and the Google Toolbar. When I click on either toolbar a long list of WWW addresses appear, many of which I do not want to be saved. When I try to delete these by highlighting the entries and pressing DEL they are not deleted. How do I delete these web addresses?
Firstly, the Oemji toolbar is recognised spyware (www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/pest/pest.aspx?id=453094187) so this should immediately be removed from your computer. You can find instructions for uninstalling the Oemji toolbar on their website: www.oemji.com/help.html . However, if you find the uninstaller does not completely remove the toolbar from your computer, you may need to use some third-party utilities to help in the removal. I recommend downloading and running Ad-Aware SE Personal (www.lavasoft.de), Spybot Search & Destroy (www.safer-networking.org), and Windows Defender (www.microsoft.com/downloads). These three free utilities will scan your computer and remove any detected spyware, adware or malware. In fact, even if the uninstall is successful I would recommend you download and run these programs to check that there are no other threats on your computer.
Now we can turn our attention to the Google toolbar. Rest assured, the Google toolbar is legitimate. However, I am unsure to what you are referring when you say a long list of WWW addresses appear. As far as I am aware, the Google toolbar does not store a web address history. The toolbar only stores your Google search history. Should you wish to clear the search history, you can find instructions to clear this history at toolbar.google.com/contact.html. What you might be referring to is the Internet Explorer address bar history. This is completely separate to the Google toolbar and is part of Internet Explorer. This will appear if you click the drop-down box at the end of the address bar in Internet Explorer. This stores a history of the web addresses you have visited. To clear this, you will need to clear the Internet Explorer history. Open Internet Explorer and go to the ‘Tools’ menu > ‘Internet Options’. In the window that appears, select the ‘General’ tab. Click the ‘Clear History’ button. In the confirmation window, click ‘Yes’. The history will now be deleted. Be aware, Internet Explorer also caches copies on web pages on your local computer hard drive. So, portions of websites you have visited may still be on your hard drive. To clear this, back in the Internet Options click the ‘Delete Files’ button. At the prompt, tick ‘Delete all offline content’ and click OK. This may take a few minutes to complete, depending on how many Temporary Internet Files you have. You may also wish to clear Cookies, which may have been saved on particular sites you have visited. Once you are finished, click OK to close the Internet Options.
