Changed email address

  • When I first setup my ISP email in Outlook Express I was told to use the address format: XXXX@ADSL.on.net . However, Internode subsequently advised me to use a different email address: XXXX@internode.on.net . Even though I have changed the email address in Outlook Express, when friends reply to emails the ADSL version of the email address still appears as the sender. Meanwhile, I have advised my friends to use the Internode address so I receive the emails twice, once on the ADSL address and once on the Internode address. How can I resolve this problem?

I also noticed on the email you sent me with your question the return (sender) address was the XXXX@ADSL.on.net address. So, it seems when you changed the email address in Outlook Express you changed the address in one location, but not all locations. I imagine what happened is the name of your original email account was ‘XXXX@ADSL.on.net’ and you changed the name of the account to ‘XXXX@internode.on.net’. However, this is just the name of the account and has no bearing on the actual email address of the account. In fact, you could name the account something completely different such as ‘Internode Email’. So, you also need to change the email address associated with this account. Open Outlook Express and go to the ‘Tools’ menu > ‘Accounts’. In the window that appears, click the ‘Mail’ tab. Select your Internode email account and click the ‘Properties’ button. In the properties window that appears click the ‘General’ tab. You will notice a field named ‘E-mail address’. Set this to the email address you would like to appear as the sender on your messages. In your case, this would be XXXX@internode.on.net . Make sure the ‘Reply address’ is blank, since when this field is blank the reply address will automatically default to the previously specified ‘E-mail address’. Once you are finished, click OK and then Close. Any emails you now send should have your new Internode email address as the sender.

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
