After a few hours of using the internet I found the Internet Explorer home page had defaulted to: www.safetyuptodate.net . This website seems to warn me about malware, and then advises me to purchase all sorts of software to remove such threats. In addition, a dialogue box appears over the top of this page advising the computer is infected with the W32.Myzor.FK@yf virus. I have run McAfee Antivirus and removed a virus called ‘Puper’. In addition, I have also run various anti-spyware programs including McAfee, Trend Micro, Ad-Aware, Spybot Search & Destroy, and Microsoft. These have removed some spyware, although the home page still remains unchanged. How can I reclaim the home page for good?

When using Nero to burn a CD the burn stopped at 52%. I restarted Nero with a new blank CD and it only completed 34%. Reinstalling Nero did not fix the problem, and the system still refuses to complete the full burn. What is wrong? A second unrelated problem is the Windows desktop background wallpaper does not appear. I have tried changing the background wallpaper, but even this does not make the background wallpaper appear. The computer is running Windows XP.

    Tip of the Week

Windows Vista, the next version of Windows, is just around the corner and due for public release on 30th January 2007. Therefore, if you intend to purchase a new computer this Christmas you should make sure the computer meets the recommended system requirements for Windows Vista, as this new operating system will be quite demanding on systems. Many PC manufacturers are also offering special deals where you can purchase a computer now with Windows XP and receive a free (or discounted) upgrade to Windows Vista upon release. Make sure you check whether any such deals are available when purchasing a computer. A list of system requirements for ‘Windows Vista Capable PCs’ are available at: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/capable.mspx .

I am attempting to watch some media on the computers which have been encoded in DivX format. The only player I can find which can play this format is the free DivX player. However, whenever I use this software it freezes. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but the problem persists. Windows Media Player, Nero Showtime, and PowerDVD are all unable to play the media, so I really need to use DivX. Can you help?
