Error loading cmicnfg.cpl

  • When ever the computer is started the following message appears: ‘Error loading cmicnfg.cpl. The specified module could not be found’. How can I stop this message from appearing? The computer is running Windows XP SP2.

This message is related to a control panel applet for sound cards and can occur after updating the sound card drives (such as when upgrading to Windows XP Service Pack 2). For step-by-step instructions for resolving this issue, have a look at the following article in The Silicon Kid archive: www.siliconkid.com.au/index.php/skarchive/viewquestion/1598/ .

Hi there. If this is the first time you are posting a comment it will not appear immediately, but needs to be approved. This is necessary in order to combat comment spam. However, once you have submitted a comment (which is subsequently approved) you do not need to go through this process again - the site remembers who you are and auto-approves your comments. Nifty eh? Anyway, sorry about the inconvenience that this may cause for your first comment post.
