    After updating to Yahoo Messenger 8.0 whenever I try to open the program a message appears saying ‘CiceroUIWndFrame: GLB129.temp. Entry Point Not Found. The procedure entry point freeaddrinfo could not be found in the dynamic link library WS2_32.dll’. I have deleted and reinstalled Yahoo Messenger, but when the installer reaches 99% the same message appears. The computer is running Windows XP SP2. (more…)

  • Checking NVRAM

    When using Adobe Premiere, or other movie making software, the computer often freezes and I must cold-boot (i.e. turn the computer off and then on) to restore operation. However, this results in the computer stopping at the ‘Checking NVRAM’ stage of the power-on self-test. In turn, this means I need to restart the computer again to get it to boot properly. The CMOS battery was replaced two months ago, but could it have gone flat again? The computer is running Windows XP. (more…)

    If your computer is crashing or freezing and reinstalling Windows doesn’t resolve the problem, the problem may be related to a hardware fault. One of the more common hardware faults is memory (RAM), but most people don’t know how to test memory. Fortunately there is an excellent program called Memtest86, which can test computer memory for problems or faults. Two versions are available: the original Memtest86 (www.memtest86.com) which is no longer actively maintained, and Memtest86+ (www.memtest.org) which is actively maintained. (more…)

  • Returned mail spam

    Every week I receive hundreds of unsolicited e-mails saying ‘Returned mail’ from unfamiliar addresses, and the sender is marked as MAILER-DAEMON@… The computer is protected using Spyware Doctor and Norton Antivirus but the problem still persists.   • Installing AVG Antivirus Free

    My Symantec Norton Antivirus subscription has expired and I wish to replace this software with AVG Antivirus Free. Do I just need to remove Norton and then install AVG? The computer is running Windows XP. (more…)
